The article profiles American kayaker Bart Hauthaway who grew up in Wisconsin paddling canoes in flatwater. Hauthaway is a kayaking pioneer in the U.S. who coached and mentored numerous kayakers. It discusses Hauthaway's achievements who created lightweight kayaks when he stopped kayaking due to back pains.
