Abstrakt: The article investigates the demographic history of the Gentoo Penguin (Pygoscelis papua) and the Adélie Penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae) populating King George Island, Antarctica using population genetic approach. Results showed high genetic diversity between the two species indicating that the Gentoo Penguins had stable population over the last 500,000 years. Expansion of Adelié population was estimated to have occurred between 300,000 to 400,000 years ago.
