Spider silk: ancient biomaterial for functional textiles.

Abstrakt: The article discusses physical properties, strength and applications of spider silk. Topics discussed include property of the silk as being the toughest in the world spun by spiders and also known as gossamer, production of spider silk protein in transgenic goats by a Canadian biotechnology company Nexia Biotechnologies Inc. and comparison with the physical properties of several fibers like Kevlar, Rubber and Tendon. Several graphs are presented showing stress-strain behavior of various fibers.
