Abstrakt:	The article discusses the reaction and criticism to the Victorian-era polychrome marble statue "Tinted Venus" by sculptor John Gibson. Topics discussed include the view that sculptures should be white, techniques used for displaying the statue at art exhibitions, and the view held by some that the tinting of the sculpture made it too sexual.
