Abstrakt: |
The challenge of a healthy democracy is to educate the next generation of citizens to be active, knowledgeable participants. Given the current state of dysfunctional politics and a test-driven educational system, it is no surprise that teachers are pressured to reduce teaching time for civic content and dispositions. In fact, recent national citizenship reports that levels of civic knowledge in U.S. have remained unchanged or even declined over the past century (NCES, 2011). New technological innovations are, however, providing promising hope for restoring civic education in the United States. This study explores one of these innovative technologies, iCivics.org, an online civics education gaming curriculum, for its propensity to meet College, Career, and Civic Life, (C3) Framework for Social Studies State Standards.
