Abstrakt: The mechanism of the development of cognitive impairments in multiple sclerosis (MS) was investigated by studying glucose metabolism at the level of the brain by positron emission tomography (PET). A total of 61 patients with different types of MS were studied. Correlation analysis identified a relationship between cognitive impairments and regional glucose metabolic rate. The authors believe that this may be evidence for an important role for metabolic abnormalities in the gray matter of the brain in the pathogenesis of cognitive impairments in MS.
