Abstrakt: The article reviews common anticonvulsants (AC) in bipolar disorder treatment, daily practice findings, and research on potential ACs as of August 20, 2014. Topics discussed include carbamazepine's and lamotrigine's limited effectiveness, and the apparent safe and effective use of divalproex for mania and bipolar depression treatment, and relapse prevention in pediatric and geriatric populations. Also mentioned is the need for study on the possible future use of topiramate and zonisamide.
