Abstrakt: The article focuses on how speech-language pathologists can prevent bilingual children from being misdiagnosed as having speech-language impairments. Topics discussed include suggestions made by researchers for incorporating pre-evaluation when assessing English language learners and the evaluative framework developed by speech pathology academics Ronald Gillam and LaVae Hoffman for guiding data collection. The need for pathologists to understand socio-cultural factors is also mentioned.
