Abstrakt: Raymond de Vieussens, anatomist and physician, graduated from the University of Montpellier in 1670 and was appointed to the hospital of Saint Eloy. He displayed great interest in anatomical dissection and used his time spent in the morgue to great advantage. His first great work, a compendium of the nervous system, was published in 1684, at the beginning of his career, and was the most complete description of the 17th century. His interest in cardiac anatomy materialized in 1706 with the publication of Nouvelles Découvertes sur le Coeur, in which he describes in detail the vessels of the heart. The study of the heart continued and his observations were published in 1715 in the Traitè Nouveau de la Structure et de la Cause du Mouvement Naturel du Coeur. He documented the first clinical presentations and autopsy results of patients with mitral stenosis and heart failure. His descriptions are valued today through multiple eponyms.
