Abstrakt: The essay discusses the commercial success of the "Evangelion" anime series which reflect Japanese popular culture, citing its presence in serious academic works on anime by experts and fans. The series present all the classical elements of the mechanical genre which includes philosophical references and mystic traditions that shed light on the anime's ability to produce meaning. French philosopher Gilles Delueze's thinking is also evident in the anime with notions of simulation and simulacrum.
