The article discusses the handicraft and dress of the Sarakatsani people of Greece and the Balkans, with particular focus on traditional aprons. Topics include a discussion of their nomadic past, and the use of wool, goat hair and cotton to make clothing and shelter, and the intent of disguising women's bodies through layering. Also noted are elements such as the use of black,the use of split-ply darning, couching, and cross-stitch, and motifs such as flowers, vines, plants and crosses.
