The article focuses on the offensive in northern and central Iraq in 2014 led by the Sunni Islamist insurgents and terrorist group the Islamic State (IS) which raised concerns for the U.S. and led to renewed U.S. military action in Iraq. Topics covered include several questions raised by crisis on the U.S. policy in Iraq, how the U.S. response to the crisis could involve working with Iran to reform the Iraqi political structure, and the humanitarian impact of the crisis. |
