Abstrakt: Turbulence is idealized as discrete vortex filaments. Velocities associated with vortex filaments and their images in the wall show that turbulent velocities normal to the wall decrease monotonically to zero and those parallel to the wall increase at the wall, in agreement with more elaborate theories of others. A bulge along the entire inside periphery of a wind tunnel is used to produce free-stream turbulence of a scale much larger than thickness of boundary layer at the wall. Our experiments and theory agree with other experiments where a moving wall was used to eliminate the wall boundary layer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
