Abstrakt: We analyzed surface wave propagation along the interface between a semi-infinite dielectric and a metal-dielectric nanostructured multilayer with indefinite permittivity, cut normally to the layers. Hyperbolization of the space dispersion (diffraction) is discussed within distinct spectral regimes. Surface waves are of hybrid TE-TM polarization, propagate obliquely or normally to the optical axes, and are more tightly confined to the surface compared to the convenient surface-plasmon-polaritons. It is demonstrated that the effective-medium approximation may reveal results that severely deviate from exact solutions. Our numerical simulations using the finite-element method predict the existence of long range oblique surface waves. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
