Raman and infrared modes of the single molecule magnet Fe[sub 8]Br[sub 8] and analogs.

Abstrakt: We present Raman and infrared data for the S = 10 single-molecule magnet (SMM) Fe[SUB8]Br[SUB8],[SUP17]O-labeled Fe[SUB8]Br[SUB8] and their analogs, Fe[SUB8]Br[SUB6.4](ClO[SUB4])) 1.6 and Fe[SUB8]Br[SUB4](ClO[SUB4]))[SUB4], over a range of 100- 1600 cm[SUP-1]. The Raman modes were assigned through group theoretical analysis of smaller model compounds. These results could help understand the structural basis of the SMM behavior of these compounds. Additionally, Raman scattering appears to have high potential as an analytical technique for the identification of SMM analogs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
