Abstrakt: Background: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are rare neoplasms that arise from the mesenchymal tissues in the gastrointestinal tract. The appendicial location of such a tumor is more rare, with only a few cases reported in this site to date. Materials and Methods: We hereby report a case of appendiceal GIST incidentally found in a 52-year-old female patient. Result: This patient presented with recurrent lower abdominal pain of 4 years duration. Resection of the appendix and adjacent lymph node was performed based on clinical and radiological diagnosis of sub-acute appendicitis. The histopathological report on the resected specimens revealed a GIST. Conclusion: Multitudes of diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties make the management of appendiceal GIST very challenging in a resource-poor setting such as ours, and follow-up of the patients is suggested given the fact that histologic parameters may not accurately predict the behavior of GIST.
