The article discusses the built, food, school and work environments which are cited by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) as socioecological determinants influencing the quality of life of diabetics. Topics covered include the impact of the built environment on public health, the correlation of poorer diabetes outcomes with availability of neiborhood resources, and the role of schools in health promotion and disease prevention. The importance of lifestyle modification is mentioned. |
