Abstrakt: This paper was accomplished in the framework of Danube WATER integrated management project, co-financed in the framework of Romanian-Bulgarian Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Program, having as main objective the accomplishment of a common management and monitoring system for water quality in extreme environmental conditions (floods, droughts, accidental pollution by chemical and radioactive substances). Together with the Danube survey, models predicting river water quality are used for assisting the protection and utilization of water resources. The aim of this work was to examine the water quality variation along the Romanian-Bulgarian sector (470 km), during a period of ten years (2001-2011), focusing on the nutrients concentrations and taking into account also the impact of the main tributaries and the wastewaters directly discharged on the Romanian side. Higher values were obtained in the downstream part of the study area, due rather to the inflow tributaries than to the water users along the Danube River. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
