Neuropsychological studies were performed on 61 patients with the remitting (38 cases) and progressive (23 cases) types of multiple sclerosis (MS) to identify links between cognitive disorders with changes in the glucose metabolic rate (GMR) in the gray matter of the cerebral cortex in MS with different courses; neuroimaging was also performed. Correlation analysis revealed a relationship between cognitive impairment and regional GMR values, depending on the course of MS. Details of the dynamics of the functional activity of the gray matter of the cerebral cortex during progression of illness and increases in disability were also demonstrated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
