Abstrakt: Demonstrates the organic nature of medieval urban renewal in the history of Florence, Italy, by analyzing the management of the water-powered mills that crowded the Arno River as it flowed through the city from 1351-1382. Governmental control of the mills; Building of mills by the Florentine Commune; Clearing the Arno of its waterworks as necessitated by fear of flooding.
