‘Dreams of Utopia’: the infant welfare movement in interwar Croydon.

Abstrakt: An essay is presented on the infant welfare movement in Croydon, London, England, during the early 20th century. Particular focus is given to women volunteers involved in the movement and their motivations. Details on the organization known as the Croydon Mothers and Infants Welfare Association (CMIWA) are presented. According to the author, organizations such as the CMIWA allowed women to assume public responsibilities and engage in societal debates about motherhood ideals.
