Abstrakt: The article analyzes the poem "The Impercipient" by Thomas Hardy. It explores the possibility that the poem's title refers to multiple individuals, thus challenging interpretations from scholars such as Keith Wilson and J.O. Bailey that suggest Hardy is the subject of his poem. The author also states that the poem reflects humility, contains irony, and demonstrates Hardy's desire to believe in some level of spirituality despite being agnostic.
