The article reports on research which was conducted to investigate a high prevalence of low levels of skeletal muscle mass associated with male gender seen in middle aged and older HIV-positive people despite their having undergone CD4 cell reconstitution and viral suppression. Researchers evaluated 80 male patients. They found that the prevalence of sarcopenia was five per cent and that the prevalence of presarcopenia was 20% and that presarcopenia was prevalent in middle aged and older HIV-positive men |
