The article focuses on the U.S. banking industry in 1983. Topics discussed include an assessment of bank lending to foreign countries and energy-related concerns, initiatives to impose banking controls, and forecasts for 1984 for regional and small banks, domestic loan volume and deregulation of the banking system.
