Abstrakt: The article explores the hypothesis that monetary intervention alleviated banking panics during the early stages of the Great Depression in the U.S. economy. The author notes articles by Charles W. Calomiris, Joseph R. Mason, Gary Richardson, and William Troost in order to evaluate date on the monetary activism of the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Georgia. Other topics include the geographical aspects of depositor panic, balance sheets, and bank performance in Mississippi.
