Abstrakt: The results of studying the structure of a fixed random-packing layer loaded into a cylindrical apparatus are presented. It is shown that the distribution of the local void fraction in the cross section of the device loaded with a packing layer is quasi-sinusoidal. The maximum value of the void fraction occurs in the proximity of the curvilinear surface bounding the packing layer due to the influence of the surface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
