Abstrakt: The article argues for the reliance of poet Lawman upon classical and Christian writings as well as on 11th- and 12th-century Latin sources in England in his treatment of Julius Caesar in the poem "Brutonum." It discusses the similarities and differences between the presentation of Julius Caesar in "Brut" and in Wace's "Roman de Brut." Evidence are presented that Lawman had knowledge of Latin and drew on Latin writings as an alternative language of history in the poem.
