Abstrakt: The optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) is a radio-frequency (RF) source that utilizes lengths of optical fiber in a ring resonator to create low-phase-noise signals. In this work, we demonstrate a novel fiber-optic acoustic sensor by measuring the modulation sidebands induced on the OEO's RF signal by an acoustic tone impinging on the fiber spool in the OEO. The narrow linewidth and high oscillating frequency of the OEO results in a sensor with both high signal-to-noise ratios and high spectral resolution. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
