Abstrakt: The article discusses the vertebral compression fractures related to osteoporosis in women in the United States. Vertebral compression fractures are the most common of all osteoporotic fractures. Mostly they result in decline in quality of life. Approximately two-thirds of vertebral compression fractures are asymptomatic. Initially, when the symptoms are mild, women suspect a muscle sprain. But in acute fracture, severe pain is experienced which is due to the irritation of periosteum and of the joint capsule. Spinal radiographs are used to diagnose vertebral fractures. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) helps in noninvasive visualization of the spinal cord and cauda equina enables noninvasive assessment of the bone marrow which enables immediate detection of vertebral compression fracture. Relief from acute pain from vertebral fractures can be accomplished with oral analgesics. Clinicians believe that the use of therapeutic exercise in post fracture rehabilitation is more efficient as compared to spinal orthosis.
