Abstrakt: Brief Background: Failure of eruption is uncommon and multifactorial in nature. The factors involved are local, systemic and genetic. The paper presents a rare case of ipsilateral submerged permanent maxillary and mandibular first molars, associated with the presence of fusion between the maxillary second with third molar. Materials and Methods: Clinical, panoramic and periapical radiographs revealed submerged maxillary and mandibular first molars with close proximity to the floor of maxillary sinus and inferior alveolar canal respectively. Discussion: Tooth eruption and the various hypotheses proposed surrounding it, rarity of submerged teeth, their causes, the potential to cause malocclusion, the treatment options are matters that form the subject of discussion. Summary and Conclusions: This case report reflects a severe disturbance in the eruptive process leading to submergence of permanent first molars in both the right quadrants. Also, fusion of maxillary second and third molars, probably idiopathic in nature, was noted in the same case making it a rare occurrence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
