The article examines the social dimensions of spirit possession. The literature on spirit possession has shifted in its direction during the past 20 years because the importance of behavioral and psychological rationalization have succumbed to increased focus on local contexts, cultural logics, creativity, and human imagination. There has also been a gradual elimination of the category of spirit possession as an autonomous subject of study. It is too early to predict the impact of the revival of mimesis and its history on analysis. |
