The article presents an exploration into the consumer behaviors of purchasing nonprescription drugs for self-medication. The escalating social and economic conditions in the United States in the 1990s leading to increases in nonprescription purchasing are cited and the efficiency and accuracy of consumer choices are analyzed. It is suggested that consumer information-seeking behaviors generated by nonprescription medicine are beneficial to public health and the health care service industry alike as it increases the likelihood of expert assistance and desire for health education. |
