The article presents criticism on the films "Hands of the Ripper," directed by Peter Sasdy, and "The Unsaid," directed by Tom McLoughlin, detailing the relationship between the films and psychoanalysis. Both are described to be exemplary cinematic models of the repetition compulsion, which gives the feeling of the uncanny, defined by Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud in his seminal essay "The Uncanny." It also offers an overview and exploration of the films' story and characters, respectively. |
