Abstrakt: The article reports developments in the pharmaceutical industry in the U.S. as of mid-March 1983. It focuses on the issues in the production of codeine, which was adversely affected by the decision of the administration of U.S. President Richard Nixon in 1971 to eliminate the supply of opium poppies to resolve the heroin drug problem.
