This article describes a study which assessed the impact of the French Agency for the Safety of Medicine and Health Products (ANSM) guidelines on drugs prescribed for urinary tract infections (UTI). Researchers used antibiotic prescription data extracted from the agency. They concluded that prophylactic nitrofurantoin should be restricted and that it should retain its place in the therapeutic armamentarium for UTI, especially in the face of the rising multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae. |
