New 6-[(2,6-dihalophenyl)(methoxy)methyl]-5-methyl-2-(nitroamino)pyrimidin-4(3 H)-ones were synthesized by an original and efficient method involving regioselective O,O′-dimethylation of substituted mandelic acids in superbasic medium.
