Abstrakt:	The article reviews the ethical, legal, and social issues relevant to chronic disorders of consciousness. The major ethical issue of whether these patients should receive life-sustaining therapy is explored. It offers information on statutes on guardianship and end-of-life surrogate decision-making, the use of advance directives, or both that have been passed in U.S. states.
