Abstrakt: The article reports on the state of the U.S. railroads industry as of January 1954 and offers outlook for the sector for the coming year. The year 1953 saw no steel strikes, no coal shutdowns, and no trouble with the Brotherhood unions. Operating revenues totaled 7.2 billion U.S. dollars as of August 1953. Growth in the deep south gave its four biggest lines improvement in operating efficiency. Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad are cited for publishing the best annual reports.
