SUMMARY In a 22 year old man with dominant extrapyramidal signs, dystonia and mental deterioration, magnetic resonance imaging revealed marked overall low signal from the globus pallidus on each side, with central zones of high signal on T2-weighted spin echo sequences. There was also a strikingly low signal in the zona reticularis of the substantia nigra, consistent with Hallervorden-Spatz disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
