Abstrakt: SUMMARY The ponticulus posterior is a congenital variant of the first cervical vertebra, or atlas. It occurs in approximately 15% of Caucasian subjects, and appears to have no differences in distribution between the sexes, nor a predominance to either side. Normal age distribution indicates that it is not an aging phenomenon. The size of the foramen produced is a good indicator of the diameter of the contained vertebral artery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
