Abstrakt: A method for determining small rates and fluctuations of flow has been applied to the uterine secretions in non-pregnant women, the secretions being labelled by added heat, 4·10−3 cal·sec−1. Base line secretory rates during consecutive phases of the menstrual cycle were determined but the main advantage of the technique is the unique possibility of studying fluctuations in the rate of flow as a measure of uterine motility, without interference from foreign bodies in the uterine cavity. The responses of the non-pregnant human uterus in vivo to intravenously injected synthetic oxytocin and to the deposition of fluid in the posterior fornix are reported. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
