SUMMARY Various mechanisms are responsible for the loss of competence of the ureterovesical junction. An astiological classification of reflux is presented. The various procedures needed for the diagnosis of vesico-ureteral reflux and the individual importance of each technique in the evaluation of each case are described. Cineftuoroscopy is the best means of detecting reflux, as well as recording the pressures, volumes, and conditions under which it occurs. Since it requires expensive equipment and is not always available, a simple technique for voiding cysto-urethrography is described. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
