The incidence of iatrogenic ureteral injuries varies depending on the type of surgery, however 52%-82% occur during gynecologic procedures. Even if the prevalence of ureteral injuries in oncologic surgery is high, most of the iatrogenic ureteral injuries occur during gynecological procedures concerning benign tumors, especially in patients with modified pelvic structure -- dystocic pelvises. Therefore any surgeon -- gynecologist that performs pelvic surgery may injure the ureter and therefore must have knowledge on the ureteral anatomy and the most common sites of iatrogenic ureteral injuries, especially in dystocic pelvises, so that he may anticipate the occurring potential of a specific ureteral trauma.
