The article presents insights from poets of slam poetry on their craft techniques that work for all genres. According to Rudy Cabrera of Lizard Lounge Poetry Jam in Boston, Massachusetts, the adrenaline helps stimulate his craft. Jesse Parent, who competed with Utah's Salt City Slam, is inspired by Biblical stories and fairy tales. Jasmine Sufi, who competed with Pierced Ear Poetry Slam, said her poem explores her history of self-harm and opens the way of dialogue with the audience. INSET: From the mouths of poets. |
