Abstrakt: The article reports on energy exploration initiatives at the Williston Basin. The intracratonic sedimentary basin has seen increased exploratory activity since the early 1920s with the arrivals of wildcatters and land speculators. The first to establish operations in the area is Prairie Oil & Gas Co. which renamed to Sinclair Oil. Amerada Petroleum Corp. was the first energy company to strike the ground, tapping the Nesson anticline. Amerada also produced the highest lease play in oil history.
