The present article based on New Historicism provides a distinctive method to reclaim one's social and political commitments. This article sets out to explore literary texts which are historical by nature in order to understand certain social and political circumstances in which the stories are set. This narrative of Munro's represents a piano teacher belonging to the Victorian era. The narrator highlights intellectual and survival instincts of the old lady in the contemporary period. The narrative is a beautiful reflection of the past and the present interwoven representing the periods they existed. As the narrative represents, an individual with problems, the reader recognizes that her personal principles and activities are influenced by various social and political factors that surround her. For the historical tale, is embedded in a tiny space of the text, and it's through this embedded tale that one seeks to prove that the representation in the literary text is authentic through a New Historical study.
