Hearing care professionals know that personalization- the selection of hearing aid response parameters for a particular individual and his or her listening needs-is critical for a successful fitting. But how are personalization and the user's preference and performance related? The following two-site clinical study examines personal profile settings in the new Oticon Alta hearing instrument. Results indicate Alta provides significantly better speech intelligibility than Oticon Agil, the previous- generation instrument. However, speech intelligibility performance does not predict the user's preferred personal profile and corresponding hearing aid parameters. Results also suggest that hearing aid users can play a crucial role in selecting their preferred hearing aid settings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
