The article presents an overview of China's modernization of its naval forces as of July 5, 2013. It highlights the date when China began upgrading its navy and the elements of the country's naval modernization effort. The limitations and weaknesses of China's naval modernization efforts are highlighted. China's goals for its naval modernization initiative are discussed including capabilities for Taiwan scenarios and asserting its territorial claims in the South China Sea. |
