Abstrakt: A half diallel cross using seven (7) bacterial wilt resistant/tolerant genotypes and high yielding varieties was done to study the extent of heterosis of some important fruit quality traits in tomato. The heterosis over better parent (BP) was up to the extent of 14.04, 11.17, 27.87, 15.03, 22.59, 8.00, 21.04 and 45.89 per cent was recorded for fruit juice, total soluble solids (%brix), total acidity (%), vitamin C content (mg/100g), lycopene content (%), PH of fruit juice, pericarp thickness and fruit yield per plant, respectively. The extent of heterosis was not as high as we are also looking for resistant to the bacterial wilt disease. The crosses showing heterosis for fruit yield per plant were not heterotic for all the fruit quality characters under study. The heterosis for yield was generally accompanied by heterosis for yield components. Three promising crosses viz., Arka Ahuti x LO-5973, Arka Vikas x LO-5973 and Arka Ahuti x CLN-2026-D were identified for developing high yielding F1 hybrids/ varieties of tomato with many desirable fruit quality traits.
