Abstrakt: The article discusses the Albigensian Crusade, in which royal French forces suppresses alleged heretics in Languedoc, France. The author traces the crusade's origin to resistance to the Catholic Church's standardization of observance in the mid-12th century. He also comments on the nature of Catharism and the association of this belief system with various southern French castles and fortresses. Also noted is the Battle of Muret, France, in 1213.
